Held the first Mi’kmaw Traditional Birch Bark Canoe Builder Apprentice Program
Offered additional training workshops to community members to learn more about sustainable harvesting practices, traditional medicines, eco-tourism and plant identification
Established the CMM & PHP Natural Resources Bursary at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Agriculture

Monitor and manage the experimental Black Ash plantations and mitigating current and future threats
Began investigating the potential for non-timber forest products through conducting inventories of raw materials in community woodlots and conducting various feasibility studies
Collaborative project with Parks Canada on an inventory of white birch for bark harvesting in Kejimkujik National Park
Managed numerous Mi’kmaw silviculture crews in Pictou and Hants County
Began utilizing the agreement with Port Hawkesbury Paper to perform harvesting and silviculture operations on licenced crown land
2016/2017
Conducted Community needs assessments in 2016-2017 to determine communities interests and needs for the Forestry sector to develop individualized Strategic Plans for each community
Began partnering with the Clean Foundation to offer summer student positions on the AFSAR Black Ash Project
Developed comprehensive, multi-year Community strategic plans for the member Communities
Formed the Mi’kmawey Forestry Advisory Committee and appointed members from each community as representatives
Formalized partnership with Port Hawkesbury Paper and the Department of Natural Resources for community members to be involved in various forestry operations
Conducted TD Tree Days to increase tree planting efforts and to engage youth in various communities
Developed a training program with the Maritime College of Forest Technology and NSCC to deliver silviculture training in communities
Worked with MCFT & NSCC to deliver training to 30+ community members
Worked with industry and other not-for profit organizations to begin to form partnerships on future projects
Assisted the Black Ash Recovery Team with AFSAR Recovery Projects 2016/2017 through website (wisqoq.ca), data gathering, reintroduction, etc.
